How many name servers do domains use?

The vast majority of domains use 2 authoritative name servers, with 63% of the 76 million domains we surveyed in December 2019 configured this way.

Another 13% and 16% of the surveyed domains use 3 and 4 name servers respectively, resulting in approximately 93% using between 2 and 4 name servers.
